Audio Branding: Studio Poetica

Studio Poetica's audio logo is a sonic translation of their core ethos: contemplate, create, craft. It is a six-note sequence designed to evoke structural elegance and quiet, enduring beauty.

The melody traces a circular arc, rising from the root of C, journeying through five notes, and returning home to C once more. Performed in octaves, it directly mirrors the twin circles of the practice's visual icon. The piano carries the brand's primary voice, its tactile, timeless resonance providing a familiar thread across the studio's cinematic and digital work.

From the opening ambient texture to the final luminous major chord, the mnemonic captures a single emotion: the feeling of opening your eyes for the first time in a new home. The sound of arrival.

The full Theme

The full KUDUMM theme is a sophisticated expansion of the brand’s sonic identity. It evolves from the initial, signature Djembe strike into a rich, rhythmic landscape that honours its African roots while maintaining a relentless sense of forward momentum.

At its core, the theme is a deliberate dialogue between the primal and the progressive. The organic, earthy pulse of the Djembe is blended with a tech-driven bass synth, bridging the gap between nature and the digital frontier. This synergy reflects KUDUMM’s ability to marry traditional storytelling with cutting-edge multimedia.

The bass expands into a melodic driving force, evoking the raw power and agile movement of a Kudu in full stride across the veld.

Studio Poetica crafted an interior defined by sweeping curves, tactile textures, and an overarching sense of clarity for the new offices of VRS & Brits. The design challenge was to translate the physical experience of long, flowing hallways and sun-drenched spaces into a video experience that felt as open and inviting as the office itself.

RlR Design composed a piano accompaniment to serve as the narrative voice for the video tour. The score tells the story of a walkthrough, mimicking the pace of a person discovering the space for the first time. The melody follows the curves of the long hallways, fluid transitions mirroring the flow of the interior layout.

The choice of piano provides a tactile, human element, the voice of Studio Poetica, complementing the organic materials and values at the heart of their practice.

The examples above demonstrate the value of composing music specifically for the visuals. Unlike stock audio, a composed score gives the work a voice of its own.

Synchronicity: The music rises and falls with the visual transitions, guiding the viewer's emotional response with precision rather than coincidence.

Narrative depth: The composition captures the feeling of the materials, the coolness of stone, the warmth of wood, the clarity of light, telling the story in greater detail than sight alone can achieve.

Artistic intent: Every note is a deliberate choice, ensuring the voice of Studio Poetica speaks in emotionally considered language.
